On the 28th of february 2011 TDWI in Finland is organizing a Data Quality seminar with yours truly as the speaker (event link: http://www.tdwi.fi/tapahtumia-events/). Apart from the main presentation we will also have two round table discussions.  The idea is to spark interesting discussions based on your experience and knowledge around your data centric business challenges. Please feel free to start the discussion by commenting this post, based on the question above! Please leave any comments on TDWI:s own blog: http://www.tdwi.fi/2011/01/do-we-really-need-a-business-case-for-data-quality/

A bug is a bug is a… data quality problem

At first I was going to call this post You say potato and I say potahto Part 2 as a continuation on the topic about unclear definitions of the word Data Quality ( Read the post). I would like to discuss the problem of mislabelling data quality problems and the damage it can cause. We all know what system bugs are and most of us can relate to them as we use software daily. Many of us have also encountered data quality problems either in our work or as individuals. The worlds of system bugs and data quality bugs share a lot of commonalities. You say potato and I say potahto – Part 1

One problem when trying to convince people to improve their data quality is that the word itself, Data Quality, is well known, used but also abused in our organizations today. For any other buzz word this would be positive but not for the word data quality. Actually the term has been around for so many years that it has in a sense lost its original meaning, and many take it for granted. This poses a problem when people think they are handling their data quality correctly when in fact they are not.

Data Quality Experts Unite!

Welcome to my first post in my first blog and most likely the only Swedish blog devoted to Data Quality… Yes I’m probably going to see comments like “We also discuss data quality in our blog” but this blog will be purely about data quality and related topics, so no posts about dash boards, CRM or predictive analysis except if they relate to bad data.
